Intro
The TC21 Project is run by the consortium of Yorkshire and Humberside universities and funded by the Training and Develpment Agency for Schools (TDA) to promote the recruitment of students from Black and Minority Ethinc (BME) groups into Initial Teacher Training.

  • In England, 12.9% of pupils are from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
  • The percentage of teachers from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds is 2.4%.

  • The TDA is currently making a nationwide attempt to recruit more Black and Minority Ethnic people into teaching.
  • Their target is to recruit 12% of teachers from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds by 2007.
