How do I apply to train as a teacher?
If you choose an undergraduate route, you will apply through UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk). If you choose a postgraduate route, you must apply through Graduate Teacher Training Registry (www.gttr.ac.uk).
Will I receive funding?

I do not have GCSE's in Mathematics, Science or English, can I still apply?
If you don't have the necessary GCSEs in Mathematics, English or Science, you may be able to take a pre-entry test set by your ITT provider. Some providers may also accept skills developed through other, related work experience. If in doubt, you should contact your chosen ITT provider to find out what their requirements are.
I wish to apply for Primary PGCE and I do not have a GCSE grade C or above in Science. Can I still apply?
You must have grade C or above, or equivalent, in Science prior to your application. You must check with individual institution for further information.
I do not have grade C in Maths at GCSE level, can I still apply to do a Secondary PGCE?
You may be able to apply to do certain subjects. However some institutions offer equivalency test to assess your mathematical ability.
I have no experience of working with children, can I still apply?
You may be able to apply without the experience of working with children. However, in order to improve your chances of securing a place, you must have relevant experience of working with children in a learning environment.
When is the deadline for applying for a Primary PGCE?
You must to apply by the end of November in the year before you wish to train.
When is the deadline for applying for a Secondary PGCE?
We advise candidates to apply as early as possible, ideally before February. For popular courses (History, English, Biology, PE) places go very quickly, so apply as early as possible. Go to www.gttr.ac.uk for a list of vacancies
Can I do the PGCE part time/flexible?
Yes. Please check the individual institution's website or prospectus.
Whom should I choose as my referee?
You should choose someone who can comment on your academic ability as well as your personal qualities.
How many institutions can I apply to for a primary PGCE?
Two. As primary places are very competitive, you must choose your institutions carefully.
Which institutions offer an undergraduate route?

I have an international qualification. Will this be recognised in the UK?
It depends on your level of qualifications. You need to check whether your qualifications are comparable through NARIC (www.naric.org.uk).
What happens if I am unsuccessful at the institutions I apply to? Can I re-apply?
Yes. Unplaced applicants can apply through the GTTR to other providers that still have places by using the Track service at www.gttr.ac.uk. By July, GTTR Clearing begins. Unplaced applications who are not already using the Extra service can apply direct to providers with places available. It may be advisable to gain feedback from the institutions to improve your application.
