How do I know if teaching is for me?
The best, and simplest, way to find out whether you are suited to life as a teacher is to spend some time in a school, observing experienced teachers as they deliver lessons and go about their daily professional lives.
Taster Courses
Some institutions run three-day taster courses, including a day in school, which gives a useful insight into teaching. The courses are run throughout the academic year. Contact the individual institutions for details or go to www.tda.gov.uk.
Open Schools Programme
For more information about the Open Schools Programme call the teaching information line on 0845 600 0991 or go to www.tda.gov.uk
The Student Associate Scheme
This gives registered students in full or part-time higher education the opportunity to develop new and invaluable skills and experience through working in a school alongside experienced teachers.

If you are registered on an HND, foundation degree, or undergraduate or postgraduate programme not leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), this may be your chance to explore a career in teaching.

The scheme operates at two levels depending on your experience and level of commitment. A bursary is paid for the days you spend in school.

The following institutions provide the Student Associates Scheme, contact them directly to find out more:
